Miami Beach Pride Extended Will Run Nine Days In 2020

Miami Beach Pride has announced its extension to a nine-day extravaganza by 2020 from a week-long affair.

The celebrations this year will take place from March 28 to April 5. Attendees will experience new events and activities, including a voguing ball and a pop-up of queer art, celebrate the vibrant and inventive LGBTQ+ culture of South Florida while nodding to the 2020 theme of Miami Beach Pride: "Let's Have a Ball."

A tribute to the home of the Miami Beach organization, the theme "Let's Have a Ball" salutes the 12-year history of the organization while highlighting the strengths of the City of Miami Beach. In order to amplify the Miami Beach experience for locals and tourists alike, event decor and marketing content will feature iconic beach motifs, such as beach balls, volleyball balls, palm trees, ocean waves and art deco architectural elements.

"We are working closely with our queer art and dance groups in the spirit of our 2020 theme, Let's Have a Ball, to celebrate the beauty of self-expression," said Rich Walczak, executive director of Miami Beach Pride. This year, the ballroom culture is a huge inspiration for our theme, so we are planning a ball featuring Jason Rodriguez from Pose and the House of Eon, the hit FX series. For local LGBTQ+ artists, we are also organizing an art pop-up event to share their work with all of Miami Beach.

Pride is all about becoming your true self at the end of the day, and in their work, the LGBTQ+ dance and art groups express this idea so well. And what makes our culture so special is that. We and bring our own talents and personalities to the table, and we make magic happen when we all get together. We still work hard to make the 2020 Miami Beach Pride a more enjoyable event for everyone. For example, if festival attendees feel nervous or frustrated, they can go to our relaxing pavilion until they feel better.

The 12th Annual Pride Parade, the biggest event, takes place on Sunday, April 5, 2020. Thousands of Miami Beach Pride Parade participants and spectators will demonstrate their pride with colorful costumes and fabulous floats, starting at noon on Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th Streets.

During the second day of the Miami Beach Pride Festival, visitors are invited to celebrate their pride once again following the parade. Performances await from headliners of the A-list, international DJs, local and world-renowned artists, drag queens and more. Festival and parade access is free and open to the public. The two-day Miami Beach Pride Festival in Lummus Park is expected to include more than 100,000 participants and spectators.

Miami Beach Pride's timing makes a lot of sense; in the middle of the hurricane season, the usual June Pride celebrations for other cities take place. Meanwhile, in March and April, Miami Beach has lovely weather, which is one of the key reasons during this timeframe that they celebrate Pride. With low humidity, temperatures tend to be in the 70s.

"Miami Beach Pride has one of the world's most beautiful backdrops," Walczak said. "When dancing away to the beats of iconic DJs and entertainers, you can feel the ocean breeze or take in the vibrant Art Deco architecture of the city when heading for a spin on our Ferris Wheel. Everything is there for all.

"Because of the unique personality of our city, people come from all over the world to experience Miami Beach Pride year after year. Everywhere you go, there is so much culture and flavor. You can enjoy authentic Cuban coffee and food, dance to the hottest Samba music in Brazil, and shop in world-renowned boutiques. We are also proud to live in a city that embraces its culture of LGBTQ+ people. Miami Beach is one of the few cities to earn a perfect score year after year in the Municipal Equality Index of the Human Rights Movement.

The town works hard to reflect and preserve our culture so that, without fear, we can celebrate love for everyone, and visitors take note. In the air, there's a feeling of independence and liberation that makes travelers want to stay forever in Miami Beach, and many do! ”
